Why Write It Down?
Dreams are fleeting. Within 5 minutes of waking, 50% of a dream is forgotten. Within 10 minutes, 90% is gone. Writing them down anchors them in reality.
The Setup
Keep a journal and pen right next to your bed. Not across the room—right there. The physical act of writing bridges the gap between the dream world and the waking world better than typing on a phone.
The Method
- Don't Move: When you wake up, lie still. Moving engages your motor cortex and can wipe the dream memory.
- Recall First: Replay the dream in your mind from start to finish.
- Write Immediately: Capture keywords first (e.g., "blue cat," "flying," "late for train"). Then fill in the narrative.
Analyzing Your Entries
After a few weeks, read back through your journal. You'll start to see patterns—recurring people, places, or themes. These are the messages your subconscious is trying to send you.
